Trump International Hotel at the Old Post Office
Cleveland Construction , Inc. performed as the interior trades contractor for the redevelopment of the Old Post Office building in Washington D.C. into the new Trump International Hotel. The 499,247 SF historic Old Post Office was redeveloped to include 272 luxury hotel units, 39,000 SF of meeting space, and a 13,000 SF grand ballroom, as well as retail, spa, and museum space.
Cleveland Construction was contracted to install metal studs, drywall, fireproofing, and acoustical ceilings within all hotel guestrooms and meeting spaces, the fitness center, and the grand ballroom. Our complete scope of work included rough carpentry, as well as furnishing and installing metal stud framing, gypsum drywall for partitions, exterior gypsum board and cement plaster, acoustical ceilings, soffits, bulkheads, thermal insulation, spray fireproofing, shaft walls, hollow metal and wood doors, and water-resistant backer board in hotel bathrooms and kitchens.
Our team overcame a number of challenges throughout the project that came with working within a century-old building. For example, our team quickly realized that the redevelopment drawings didn’t match what our team was uncovering on site. Since every room had different existing conditions and final layout, our team scheduled daily walkthroughs with Lend Lease and redesigned the room layouts while performing the work. Because of the tight construction schedule, our team was marking these layout changes on paper in the room or directly on the walls to accelerate the room build-outs so other trades to begin their work.
Furthermore, in addition to our team following our company’s safety program for the project, we also followed the site-specific safety plans set forth by Lend Lease and our team was chosen by the council to receive the Gold Award of Excellence for our work at the Trump International Hotel.
