Cleveland Construction managed the construction of the new Kroger #N-907 Marketplace prototype located in Holland, Ohio.
The project consisted of demolishing a vacant former Farmer Jack’s grocery store and portions of the existing strip center within the Orchard Centre Merchants Shopping Center to build the new 124,000 square-foot CMU retail building. Site work included major utility relocations while maintaining strip center services, concrete and asphalt pavement, perimeter fencing and landscaping.
The new Kroger Marketplace features fresh and frozen foods, produce, meat and deli, Murray’s Cheese Shop, ready-made and prepared meals, sushi and seafood, wine and liquor, pharmacy with drive-up service, Fred Meyer Jewelry, The Little Clinic, adult and baby apparel, furniture and other miscellaneous merchandise.
Cleveland Construction also managed the installation of a next generation, non-toxic CO2 based grocery refrigeration system that has the potential to save Kroger 20% on energy in an effort to promote sustainability by reducing the store’s overall carbon footprint.
Cleveland Construction overcame project challenges with major changes in prototypical design during construction with the addition of The Little Clinic and major lighting and décor changes. Also, due to an extreme Winter, the project initially lost six weeks, but through an accelerated schedule and well organized work site, Cleveland Construction was able to recover three of those weeks while incorporating the design changes for a smooth and seamless completion.
