Cleveland Construction, Inc. is currently providing construction management services for an existing 5-story historic theatre including a 5-story addition to the theater incorporating a main lobby, concessions, a lounge, office and event space. In addition, a new 27-story Intercontinental Hotel will be constructed atop the theater including 274 suites, meeting rooms, sky lobby, ballroom and rooftop bar/restaurant.
The Carolina Theater opened in 1927 and was once Charlotte’s grand theater. Since it closed in 1978, the building has sat vacant and deteriorating. The new 274-room hotel tower will be built over the restored and expanded theater, with the facade incorporated into a new lobby behind a new “jewel box” exterior. This will be the first InterContinental hotel in Charlotte. This 5-star hotel will target “international luxury travel,” and currently operates in key cities around the world.
The interior demolition and abatement within the existing Theatre started in January 2018 and the new tower broke ground in the Summer of 2018.
