Project Overview
Cleveland Construction, Inc. was subcontracted to perform the exterior framing and interior trades package for a new spacecraft assembly and testing facility on Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory campus in Laurel, Maryland.
Designated as Building 30, this $30 million facility opened to spacecraft testing operations in September 2012. The 47,500 SF structure includes optics laboratories, mechanical assembly areas, and a 60-foot high bay cleanroom area capable of supporting either classified or unclassified integration and test operations.
Cleveland Construction’s scope of work included exterior framing for metal panel systems, interior work (including interior partitions), and acoustical ceilings.
The Applied Physics Laboratory has applied for LEED certification for the new building. Cleveland Construction managed the LEED submittal process for acoustical ceiling, firestopping, and gypsum wallboard purchasing and recycling for its scope of work.
