Project Description:
Hurricane Ike made landfall on Galveston Island in the early morning of September 13, 2008. The storm was considered one of the most destructive hurricanes to ever make landfall in the United States and left Galveston without electricity, gas, water pressure and basic communications.
After the storms passing, Cleveland Construction, Inc. (CCI) received calls from one of its newest clients, Silverleaf Resorts looking for assistance in evaluating the extent of the damage and calculating the cost to rebuild their Seaside Resort located on Galveston Island. Cleveland Construction was able to quickly assemble a team of people from their offices across the United States and brought in over 120 tradesman to respond and work quickly.
CCI’s team brought with them the company’s expertise in estimating, scheduling and operations. Mobilizing those strengths was crucial in order to respond to the physical destruction of the island. The ultimate goal was to help Silverleaf Resorts maintain their booking schedule.
Cleveland Construction provided services for 11 buildings. The destruction varied from replacing carpet and repainting to rebuilding entire units. CCI relied on its nationwide resources to get materials to the island quickly. For 6 weeks, the team worked long hours to get the buildings back into working order.
“It was something special to go from utter destruction to a fully operational resort in just 6 weeks. It’s something we are very proud of.” said Matt Young, CCI’s Project Manager.
