The expansion of Conway’s trucking facility in Franklin, Wisconsin was an excellent example of Cleveland Construction, Inc. (CCI) ability to plan and coordinate. The project consisted of a 25,100 square-foot dock expansion and 3,840 square-foot office expansion of the existing trucking facility with a 220-day duration. The dock expansion added 68 new docking bays to the existing 40,000 square-feet of active docks.

Throughout construction, the facility remained operational 24-hours daily. The successful phasing and project coordination done by CCI helped to maintain constant truck traffic flow circumventing the facility to keep operations running smoothly. The dock expansion and 3-acre impervious surface addition was developed on a wetland conservation easement requiring the execution of a wetland mitigation expansion. There was extremely wet soils and organics that were uncovered throughout the expansion despite nothing being shown on the borings. CCI was able to treat the soils with fly ash for the dock pads to remove the moisture and installed French drains with bridged stone for the organics. The office addition underwent extensive architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical renovations. Some of which included; demolition of the existing east wall, new foundations, new masonry, new HVAC unit, new sprinkler system and re-worked existing wet sprinkler to dry sprinkler, installed new service entrances for both dock and office, and installed an emergency generator for the entire facility. CCI also installed two 20K gallon underground storage tanks that serviced the new dry fire sprinkler system throughout the dock and office. This was a value engineering measure by CCI which saved the owner $50,000 from original design.
